Christmas

“Unto us a child is born” Isaiah 9:6

Over the coming weeks at Appleshaw St Peter’s we have many lovely things to look forward to. On Tuesday 9th December Saturn and Venus classes will be performing their music concerts to parents. It is a chance for the children to showcase their clarinet playing skills (Saturn class) and singing skills (Venus class). The first concert (Saturn) will begin at 9am and will be followed straight after by Venus class.

This year the PTA have kindly paid for a Pantomime to visit us. ‘Sinbad the Jolly Sailor’ presented by the West Midlands Children’s Theatre will be performing on Thursday 11th December in the morning. There is no cost for this show.

On Friday 12th December the PTA will be hosting a Christmas disco for all our pupils. The disco will run from 6-7.30pm and tickets will be on sale soon. On Saturday 13th December it is the PTA’s Christmas Fayre. It all gets underway at 12pm and promises to be a really festive family occasion. Please advertise amongst family and friends!

In the last week of term (Tuesday 16th) Jupiter class will again be visiting Millway House to sing carols to the residents (letter to follow soon). On Wednesday 17th at 6pm at St Peter in the Wood Church we will be holding a candlelit Carol Service with nativity tableau which we hope will be a special spiritual evening where we can join together and celebrate the true meaning of Christmas. Please see below for further details. On the last day of term (Friday 19th December) all pupils are invited to wear their Christmas jumpers (for a £1 fine) to support Save the Children. We will be holding a morning Christmas worship at 9.15 for all those who are unable to attend the church service. We will also be having our Christmas lunch followed by a special visitor in the afternoon…

As you will have realised we are not putting on a Christmas production this year. I know that this will have disappointed some of our families but with Jupiter class having already spent a considerable amount of time rehearsing for their performance of a Midsummer Night’s Dream this term I have to consider what I think are the best interests of our pupils and therefore decided some time ago that there would not be a Christmas ‘production’ this year. In all likelihood it will return next Christmas and it is highly likely that the school will come together to put on some sort of production later in this academic year. The Christmas story will of course be the central theme of our whole school and class worship time in the lead up to the Carol service and the festive season.

We will however be incorporating a nativity tableau into the Carol service which I hope all our families will be able to attend. We would like all Year R pupils to come dressed as stable animals (we have a range of costumes available in school – please see Miss Burton), pupils in Year 1 to come dressed as angels (see Mrs Preece if you need help with a costume) and pupils in Year 2 to come dressed as shepherds (again – see Mrs Preece if you need help).

Pupils in Years 3 – 6 will be providing soloists and readers. I would like them to come dressed in school uniform please. A letter confirming attendance will be coming home nearer the time.

As stated above we will be holding a morning Christmas worship in school on the morning of Friday 19th to which parents are invited, especially for all of you who are unable to attend the church service.

Many best wishes,

Ian Hickman, Headteacher
