News Update

Firstly some congratulations; Lucy in Year 2 and Dottie in Year 3 are the first to have read 5 books in our new reading challenge aimed at our older children; well done girls! I look forward to issuing more certificates over the coming weeks! Congratulations also to our Netball team who earned a hard-fought victory over Amport on Thursday winning 5-3. It is also worth mentioning that every child in Jupiter Class earnt 1000 points last week in Mathletics. Wow!

I mentioned in a previous post that we would be introducing an additional reading resource for our younger children. Well I am pleased to say that we have subscribed to ‘Bug Club’. There will be a meeting for parents to introduce it after half term but in the meantime you could view this short video which will give you a flavour of how it works.

We have also decided on a contractor to do the work on our entrance/waiting area. We have been promised that the work will be done before the end of March which is really good news. The company is called Greenspan. You can see some of their work here: http://www.greenspanuk.co.uk.

This week we appointed two new members of staff to our Learning Support team. Mrs Julia Plank will be starting with us next week while Mrs Emma Bilbao will be joining us in March when she finishes at her current school.

World Book Day is on March 5th. On this day children are invited to come into school dressed as their favourite book character; no fines or donations – it’s just for fun! http://worldbookday.com

Finally, our theme of ‘perseverance’ for this term has resonated very strongly throughout the school. There have been so many positive examples from both within and without school that have helped to clarify the meaning of perseverance to the children so that they can apply it to their own lives. On Thursday I read the story of the Prodigal Son. The message of persevering love for another human being reminded us of the importance of forgiveness and acceptance of another’s mistakes. Next term we will be exploring the theme of ‘generosity’ when we also hope to welcome back Canon Tomlinson after a period of illness. We have missed his weekly visits to school but I have kept in regular contact with him so he is at least up to speed with the latest school developments.

Have a great weekend!
