Parents Evening

Thank you to those parents who have booked their parents’ evening appointment via the online booking system. Meetings will take place on Monday 30th and Tuesday 1st December. You can book your appointments online via this link: https://appleshaw.youcanbook.me/

This link is available on the main school website in the ‘Parents’ section as well.

Travelling Book Fair

The Book Fair will be visiting school as it did last year at this time. The fair will be open on both parents’ evenings and until 4.15pm on Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd December. Children will have a chance to look at the books on the stands this week and further information about the Book Fair will be sent home in due course.

Christmas

  • 4th December: Venus Class will be holding their ukulele concert @ 9.15am – all Venus Class parents welcome to attend.
  • 7th/8th/9th December: PTA Christmas Wrap-up – this happens at lunchtime with the help of PTA committee members and friends. Children can buy and wrap up small items for friends and family.
  • 8th December: Saturn and Jupiter classes will be performing the music they have been learning this term. The concert will start at 9.15am and all parents of children in those classes are most welcome to attend.
  • 8th December: Jupiter Class will be Carol Singing at Millway House in the afternoon. More details nearer the time.
  • The whole school will be performing a play called ‘Witnesses’ on the 14th December at 2.30pm and again the following day at 9.30am. It is a Nativity play about different characters who tell of their witness to the first Christmas. Details will follow soon of any help we might need with costumes etc.
  • On the 16th December at 6pm we will be holding our Carol Service with Nativity tableau at St Peter-in-the-Wood Church. It was a wonderful service last year and we hope lots of you will be able to join us.
  • Our Christmas Lunch will be held on the 17th December. Thanks to the PTA for agreeing to help decorate tables, provide crackers and help to serve the children.
  • The 18th December is last day of the autumn term. I am aware that some schools finish early on the last day, but we will be finishing at the usual time of 3.25pm.

 ‘Witnesses’ Nativity

Could you please support this event by providing your child with a suitable costume? We do have a range of costumes in school so please see your class teacher if you need help sourcing something suitable.

  • Year R – stars
  • Years 1 & 2 – angels and shepherds (Mrs Preece will let you know which)
  • Years 3-6 – any suitable period costume (think shepherd, inn keeper etc.)

Pupils in years 3- 6 will be providing the Kings and Mary and Joseph. Mrs Crompton will let you know if this involves your child.

Could costumes please be in school by Monday 7th December?

We have an additional date to add to our schedule of performances. We will be holding a ‘dress rehearsal’ on Friday 11th December at 9.30am to which we have invited Pippins Pre-School. Additionally I would also like to invite any grandparents who would like to watch the performance to view this dress rehearsal.

Christmas Jumpers

Pupils (and staff) are invited to wear a Christmas jumper to school on the last two days of term (17th and 18th December). We would like to make a donation to CLIC Sargent and suggest a ‘fine’ of £1 for the privilege.

Our school Christmas tree is donated to us by the lovely people at Willis Farm; please see their advert below:

Message on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

We have been made aware by education establishments and young people in Hampshire and IOW of suspicious ‘friend’ requests being made through social media accounts; describing those making contact as being from ‘ISIS’

Recipients of these ‘friend’ requests have reported that the names of those making contact are ‘unusual’ and have ‘funny’ symbols. It is not yet clear if these requests are specifically intended to target young people or that this is an issue being encountered by people of all ages.

In response to this information, safeguarding young and vulnerable people is our priority; raising awareness of the matter directly, and through parents, carers and relevant professionals. Our advice to you is to make young and vulnerable people aware of this risk; speak to them, reassure them that they can speak to you, and warn them NOT to accept friend requests from ANY person they don’t know, particularly from those who appear to be linked to extremist groups.

This message is one step of a broad plan to ensure we raise awareness in order to keep young people in Hampshire and IOW informed and safe; our plan includes further investigation and ongoing communication of information as it becomes available.

If you have any concerns or require further advice, please contact us: schoolyouthengagement@hampshire.pnn.police.uk
