Maple Class – Curriculum Summer Term 2019

Summer term has arrived. Where has the time gone?

A big welcome to the Year 3’s from Beech class. It’s great to have you with us in Maple Class and I hope that you are looking forward to an exciting Summer Term.

Learning

This first half term English will be taught based on the book we are reading ‘Who Let The Gods Out?’. The children have already written a character description and are working towards writing a persuasive piece. In reading the children will continue to push themselves to show their comprehension skills and ability to use evidence to back their answers.

In science we are focusing on light and sound. The children will participate in experiments to explore this topic. They will be looking at how light and sound work and the importance of safety for both.

Maths this term we have a lot of new things to learn. The children will be learning about money; the value of coins and how to work out change. Also the children will be learning how to tell the time (analogue and digital) which can be very challenging. Any support from home is welcomed.

After the half term our topic will be based on the Romans. We have a workshop coming in to introduce the topic with fun and exciting activities as well as artefacts to look at.

Library sessions

Each week the children will have a chance to go to the library and choose a book of their choice which will get them enthusiastic about reading. They have all been given a reading review book which they are expected to review each book they have read. Inside the front cover there is a list of ways in which they can do this.

Homework

Maple class are given homework on Mondays to be handed in on Friday each week. Daily, they are expected to practise their weekly spellings, times tables and read. They also need to earn 1000 points on Mathletics. They may also be given a project to complete over a period of time.

Children will need their PE kits in school everyday along with a refillable water bottle.

Kind regards,

Miss Yelland
